Happy Compassion Mail Day!

On Saturday I went to the mail box and found one of those happy cream colored envelopes that arrive with that special saying: "Message from your sponsored child"! We have been sponsoring Lina since August of 2010 and she is really starting to share more in her letters to us. Here is the text of her latest letter (this letter was written in November):

"Dear Yvonne,

Hello God bless you; it is wonderful to write and to share with you the blessings that God gives me every day.

I want you to know that you are so special for me and I am so grateful with for the support you give me; for your prayers, for the letters you sent me and for the photo album. It was a great gift and I showed to my classmates and they were so fascinated with them.

It is good to receive news from you and from your family; as well as you think that is wonderful to enjoy God's love. I congratulate for your holidays, can you say hello to your family?

I am going to pray for your academic year. I tell you that my family and I are so fine thanks to God. In November, my cousin will be 15 and we are preparing to surprise her.

Have you gone to 15th birthday party? I would like to ask you pray because there is coming Christmas and I desire that my family and I are together to share and to celebrate; I am going to have the opportunity to visit my family and to share with my cousins.

Before I forget, thank for the voucher you sent me, I could buy some clothes and some shampoo. I send you a Bible verse with love and I would like you share with your wonderful family: 3 John 2.

I am doing well at school. This 16th I will pass to sixth grade and I am so happy because I am starting the high school. I hope to hear from you soon. Know that I keep you in my prayers. Also I tell you that at my C.D.I. we celebrated teh Bible day and I learned biblical principles that taught me about the truth. I say bye for now.

Fabric Marble Maze Tutorial

If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have seen me pin a marble maze on my gift ideas board. I meant to take a peek at that pin before I put these together, but I decided to give it a shot on my own and see what I could come up with.

We have a lot of little ones at our church and every now and then, some little person likes to sit with us during church. I have been trying to come up with ideas to keep in my church bag to keep these little people occupied if they start to get a little fidgety.

First off, I cut out 8 inch squares of 4 pieces of material, a print for the top, a piece for the back and 2 squares of flannel for the middle. I decided to make these with 4 layers of material, this way the marble has a chance of staying within the fabric a little longer.

Then, put the four layers of fabric together, prints will be right sides together, with a square of flannel against the wrong side of each print.

I like to pin things together, the pieces don't seem to shift as much while you are sewing them together.

A quarter inch seam all the way around should do the trick, just make sure to leave an opening.

Clip the corners, this helps the corners to lay down a little bit nicer. Then turn the square right side out.

After pressing the seams, make sure you put a marble inside your square between the layers of flannel.

Then sew all the way around the square about a 1/4 inch from the edge.

Now here is the fun part! Creating the maze! With a standard size marble (we found a bag at our local Dollar Store), you will want to allow about 1 to 1 1/4 inch pathway for the marble. Using a pencil and a ruler, lightly draw your maze on the top print side of your fabric.

After you have drawn your maze, sew on your pencil markings. You may have to move the marble around a little bit while sewing.

Slip stitch the opening and you now have a fabric marble maze! You can make these any size you wish, and because the material is all cotton, you can just throw them in the laundry if they get dirty.

So as you can see, I haven't been very consistent in taking my Capture Your 365 photos. Now that my blog issues seem to have been resolved, I am hoping to be more dedicated in taking my daily photos. This doesn't mean that I will be posting them everyday, maybe one post a week with all the photos from the last week. That way I can blog about other things I want to share! :)
