Capture Your 365

Boy has it been a busy week around here, which didn’t leave a lot of time for me to focus on the photo prompts from the Capture Your 365 challenge. Only three photos from the prompts this week, but I do have one bonus photo to share.

Day 117 – Fresh: Finally had some time to clean up my garden area and get some plants in the ground. Spent about three hours putting in 4 tomato plants, 20 basil starts, 2 zucchini, a whole bunch of marigolds and 3 new rose bushes. Instead of wire tomato cages, I am trying this new thing I found on Pinterest to help support the tomato plants. We will see how well it works.

Day 118 – On The Floor: Just bought a new piece of furniture from IKEA, so time to rearrange things in the school/craft room…again. With Matthew out of school and Kelsey doing a lot of school work in her room, the school/craft room isn’t really being used as a school room anymore. So we cleared out 2 desks and I am currently on the lookout for a big craft table to use in this room. Meanwhile, there are many piles all over the place that need to find new homes.

Day 119 – The Price: This is why you fill up your gas tank before you get into the mountains around here. This gas station is right outside of Yosemite National Park, which brings me to this bonus picture for you this week!

Bonus photo: Last week, I was able to go to Yosemite with three of my friends. It was just what I needed, a little break to enjoy the beauty of this place that God created. The falls were amazingly full, it wasn’t too crowded, the weather was gorgeous…where do you go when you need a break?

Capture Your 365

Five pictures for you this week and here they are:

Day 111 – Blooming: This lavender plant in my backyard is blooming like crazy! I need to do some cuttings and start drying some of these.

Day 113 – Mail: I was able to mail off letters to my Compassion kids last week! I hope they enjoy the bookmarks I made for them. Do you send your sponsored kids handwritten letters?

mobile

Day 114 – Mobile: trying to get back into the routine of walking a few days a week. On my iPod, I have a playlist of upbeat Christian songs. This is a great way for me to focus on how amazing God’s love for me is while I do what I can to keep my body healthy.

oreo moon phases

Day 115 – Spotlight: When I saw this idea on Pinterest months ago, I penciled in our history book to give this a try. We had just read about the Battle of Marathon in the Mystery of History and one of the activities was to learn about the moon phases. Always fun to combine lessons with food!

Day 116 – A Fence: Well, there is a fence behind the California poppies, does that count?

So what have you been taking pictures of this past week? The May list for the Capture Your 365 is now available to print out. Go get the list and join me for capturing the little details of your life.

Day 106 – A Pile: Here is a pile of books I have read through recently. I love to read and usually have a bookmark in at least three books at any given time. What book(s) are you reading?

Day 107 – A Sign: I love to see this sign hanging in my backyard in my beach retreat area!

Day 108 – Passed Down: My wedding dress, which I am planning on passing down to my daughter. It took me six months to hand stitch all of those pearls and sequins onto the lace bodice. One day we will cut my dress all apart and create a beautiful new dress for my daughter to wear on her wedding day.

Day 109 – On The Edge: There are some days during our homeschooling week that we don’t even leave the house, which makes it quite interesting to try to find creative ways to capture these photo prompts. Then I thought, oh, the globe! So I captured a photo of our globe with Colombia just off center. One day, God willing, I would love to travel there and give Lina a great big hug!

What did you photograph this week?

Capture Your 365

Are you taking a photo a day with the Capture Your 365 challenge? Here are my three photos from the last week of prompts:

100 chocolate chips ISO 100, 55mm, f/6.3, 1/10 sec

Day 100 – 100: 100 days of photo prompts! Now I know I haven’t taken photos for all one hundred of the photo prompts that have been sent out. But I can still celebrate, right? I was trying to figure out a way to be a little creative with this prompt. Then I thought, chocolate chips! And yes, after I took this picture, I did eat all the chocolate chips…yum!

overgrown ISO 100, 50mm, f/4.0, 1/640 sec

Day 101 – Overgrown: My poor garden area! Maybe once this wind dies down, I will take some time out there to get rid of these weeds and actually plant some summer vegetables. Home grown tomatoes taste so much better than store bought!

touch of yellow

ISO 100, 50mm, f/3.5, 1/1600 sec

Day 102 – A Touch of Yellow: Yellow is such a happy spring color. The wind we have had sure is giving all my flowers a beating. But this one has endured so far.

Capture Your 365

This week, I have four photo prompts to share with you and a couple of bonus photos!

where you sit

ISO 100, 20mm, f/4.0, 1/1250 sec

Day 93 – Where You Stand (or sit): Okay, I added the sit part. Last week, I had already taken a photo of my bare feet and thought you all probably didn’t want to see another picture of my feet. So I changed this prompt up (which we are always allowed to do) and took this picture instead. I have been reading through one of Scott Kelby’s books on Digital Photography. It was a nice warm afternoon, so I poured myself some tea and enjoyed some time outside.

lemon bloom

Day 94 – Brand New: There are so many blooms on my little Meyer lemon tree right now. I need to remember to take care of it so I can take advantage of all those fresh lemons!

Day 95 – Unlikely Pair: After the nice warm day we had, our spring weather changed again! Substituted the cold drink with a hot one and dreamed about a nice warm beach!

morning light

Day 96 – Morning Light: One day, I want to be one of those crazy photographers that gets up before dawn in an amazing location with all of the right equipment to get that wonderful sunrise shot. Until then, I will be happy with all the beautiful light that comes through my east facing doors in the morning.

church in the city

ISO 100, 200mm, f/16, 30.0 sec

Bonus Photo Number 1: My husband and I were in the city (San Francisco) on Saturday night. So I brought along my camera and my tripod to try to get some long exposure night time shots. With some help from his co-worker’s husband, I was able to get this shot. The city had quite a bit of fog that night so I wasn’t able to get a lot of shots like I was hoping to.

car lights

ISO 100, 200mm, f.16, 20.0 sec

Bonus Photo Number 2: From the other side of the building, I was able to get this shot of car lights out on the street.

These night time shots were fun to take! I adjusted my settings, pushed the shutter, and stepped back. Now I am dreaming of a night time trip to Yosemite with a full moon. Can you even imagine the awesome pictures you can take of Yosemite at night?
