What's In The Mail? - Compassion Alumni

Volunteering at many Compassion event over the past five years has given me the opportunity to meet quite a few Compassion alumni and hear their stories in person. Just last month, while at the Compassion Experience in Texas, I was able to meet Keewani from the Philippines. Her story is on the Compassion Experience trailer that my son and his team are with.

I thought my own Compassion sponsored children might like to read about Keewani's story. So I copied Kiwi's story from the Compassion website, and added it to a page with a photo from the day we met her:

Compassion Experience with Kiwi

My hope is that this is encouraging to my sponsored children who will see that Kiwi was able to escape the poverty that she was born into.

Even if you have never met any of the Compassion alumni, you can still share their stories with your own sponsored children. Currently, there are stories of 17 Compassion alumni on the Compassion website.

Since I did my letters online this month, I also included this page which I created using the Canva website:

I want my sponsored children to remember that God is good at all times and He is always watching over them. He loves them and He will always give them peace.

So, what's in the mail this month to your own Compassion sponsored children?

What's In The Mail? - Music

Music has been a big part of my life. When I was a little girl, I took piano lessons. I learned how to play the flute, the oboe, and the piccolo in the school band in elementary school. My kids both play stringed instruments. And I love listening to all sorts of music.

Since I love music so much, I decided to write a bit about music to the children I sponsor with Compassion this month. I asked them if they liked music and shared a bit about my love for music. Then I shared part of the lyrics from a Matt Maher song that I love:

"I have a home, eternal home

But for now I walk this broken world

You walked it first, You know our pain

But You show hope can rise again up from the grave Abide with me, Abide with me

Don’t let me fall, and don’t let go

Walk with me and never leave

Ever close, God abide with me"

Then I reminded them that God is always with them. That He loves them more than anyone. And that He is always there to listen to them and comfort them.

This month, I wrote my letters online and added an additional photo page which I am sharing here:

You are welcome to download and add this image in your next letter to the Compassion kids that you sponsor.

What's In The Mail? - A Simple Reminder

When was the last time you received a simple note in the mail from a dear friend? I don't know about you, but most of the time my mailbox is filled with bills and junk mail.

A simple note is a sweet reminder that someone was thinking about you. Someone actually set aside time and wrote a few words that brought a smile to your face.

Often times, when writing letters to our Compassion kids, I have spent a lot of time wondering what to say and what to send to them.

I think we make things more difficult than they really need to be. A simple reminder that God loves them, that we are praying for them, and that we made the time to mail a letter to them is all that is needed to bring a smile to that child thousands of miles away from us.

This month, I decided to do just that, send a simple reminder to our Compassion kids. I selected the card option. Have you seen these yet? I picked this one:

This is one of four cards currently available

Inside each card, I reminded each child that I believe they are a special person and that God loves them. I also included the words to Ephesians 2:10:

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. - Ephesians 2:10

Then I added a photo page with an image I shared on the Compassion blog this month:

God created you for a special purpose

I had to crop this image down to add it to the photo page. But the message of the image is the important part of that simple reminder, God has created each one of our Compassion kids for a special purpose.

What's In The Mail? - Glimpses of God

Today on the Compassion blog, you can read my latest post which highlights the new Compassion letter writing guidelines. But today on my blog, I am sharing what's in the mail to my own sponsored children this month.

What's In The Mail - Glimpses of God
  • In my letter to my kids this month, I wrote about looking for glimpses of God where they live. I also reminded them that God is always with them and He is always watching over them.
  • Doodle 101 tutorial so they can create their own Bible verse doodle
  • I took time this week and drew out the Doodle 101 tutorial that I am sending to them. I left it as a coloring page for them to color in themselves.
  • What makes me special? devotional I found on this website
